Sudanese cities are rising up… and crowds near the palace

Dozens of dead and wounded in processions calling for civilian rule

Yesterday, Thursday, the cities of Sudan witnessed massive processions once morest the military rule, which reached the outskirts of the presidential palace in the capital, Khartoum, and brought back to memory the two million movement during the 2019 uprising, which imposed civilians as a partner in power before the military regained power once more last October. .

The cities of Khartoum, Omdurman and Bahri, in addition to Waddamani (central), Port Sudan (east), Al-Obeid and Nyala (west), witnessed roaring processions and clashed with the security forces that used excessive violence, causing dozens of deaths and injuries.

The Sudanese Central Committee of Doctors, which supports democracy, announced the killing of six protesters, including a child, at the hands of the security forces, and at least four of them were wounded “with direct bullets to the chest” or “in the head.”

The demonstrators chanted slogans calling for civilian rule, and some carried banners calling for retribution for those killed in previous protests.

This is the first time in months that the authorities cut off internet and phone services to confront the months-long protests.

Archyde.com quoted eyewitnesses as saying that security forces in central Khartoum fired tear gas and water cannons in an attempt to prevent the growing crowds from heading towards the presidential palace, causing dozens of injuries among the demonstrators.

The crowds in Khartoum and its twin cities, Omdurman and Bahri, numbered in the tens of thousands. In Omdurman, eyewitnesses reported incidents of tear gas and gunfire, as security forces prevented demonstrators from crossing into Khartoum.
