Sudanese army talks about “qualitative operations” in Khartoum

Sudan – Sudanese army spokesman Brigadier General Nabil Abdullah confirmed yesterday, Sunday, that more than 100 members of the Rapid Support Forces were killed and dozens were injured as a result of “qualitative operations” carried out by the Sudanese army targeting Rapid Support Forces sites yesterday, Saturday, in the capital, Khartoum.

The spokesman pointed out that a number of combat vehicles belonging to the Rapid Support Forces fighters were destroyed during the operations.

This comes at a time when Sudanese activists accused the Rapid Support Forces of committing a massacre once morest villagers in the Rahad Governorate in North Kordofan State, west of the country, which left at least 23 dead.

According to two statements by the Sudan Doctors Network and the Sudan Call, the Rapid Support Forces ambushed traders from the western village of Fangoga and some other villages on Saturday while they were heading to a local market, and opened fire on them, killing 23 people and wounding a large number.

The Sudanese Doctors Network described the incident as a “heinous crime” and an attempt by the Rapid Support Forces to restrict the movement of citizens and besiege them without justification in locations devoid of any military presence.

On the other hand, the resistance committees in Wad Madani, the capital of Al-Jazeera State in central Sudan, accused the Rapid Support Forces of deliberately forcibly displacing the state’s residents and destroying the infrastructure of the Al-Jazeera, Al-Rahad and Al-Junaid Sugar Projects and the lands of the Sennar Sugar Factory.

The Resistance Committees confirmed – in a statement – that the Rapid Support Forces looted thousands of agricultural machinery, fertilizers, and farmers’ winter and summer crops in full.

The Al-Jazirah Agricultural Project is the largest of its kind in Africa, with an area of more than two million acres.

On another note, the emergency room of the city of Al-Dinder in Sennar State announced today, Sunday, an increase in the death rate among people with chronic diseases, the elderly, and children in the city following the Rapid Support Forces entered the area.

The Chamber said in a statement that many people with heart disease, diabetes and kidney failure died due to the complete shutdown of hospitals, clinics and health centres following they were destroyed by these forces.

She pointed out that the Rapid Support Forces targeted Al-Dinder Hospital, destroying it, torturing medical personnel and killing some of them, according to the statement.

It is noteworthy that the Rapid Support Forces are seeking to control Sennar State in southeastern Sudan, as part of their efforts to consolidate their control over the central and western parts of the country, which has led to the displacement of more than 200,000 people, according to the Sudanese News Agency (SUNA).

The war broke out in April of last year between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces.

The United Nations says regarding 25 million people – regarding half the country’s population – need aid, famine is looming, and regarding 10 million have fled their homes.
