The Sudanese army and the Rapid Reaction Force (RRF) signed a preliminary agreement yesterday, May 11, in the Saudi city of Jeddah, the TV channel reports. “Al-Hadas” with reference to sources. According to them, the parties “reaffirmed their firm commitment to the sovereignty and unity of Sudan.” They also agreed to “refrain from any attack that might harm the civilian population”, citing its interests as their priority.

Among other items:

  • allow all civilians in the Sudan to leave besieged and “hostile” areas;
  • ensuring the protection of medical workers and public institutions in Sudan, as well as “respect for public and private institutions”;
  • observance of regular humanitarian pauses.

In April, an armed confrontation began in Sudan between the official army and the RRF, which were supposed to unite under an agreement to return the country to civilian rule. More than 400 people died as a result. On May 3, the RRF did not agree to a seven-day truce with the army.
