Yesterday, the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it had summoned the Ethiopian ambassador in Khartoum once morest the backdrop of the execution of soldiers and a Sudanese civilian who were prisoners of the Ethiopian army, adding that it would also summon its ambassador in Addis Ababa for consultations.
The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the incident, describing it as a “heinous crime”, noting that “Sudan hosts more than two million Ethiopian citizens.”
She added that a formal complaint had been submitted to the Security Council and relevant international and regional organizations.
In turn, the Sudanese army pledged that “this treacherous position will not pass without a response, and it will respond to this cowardly behavior in what suits it, because Sudanese blood is precious, without it the madness and lives.”
On the other hand, the Ethiopian Foreign Ministry called on the Sudanese government not to escalate and to exercise restraint.
“The Ethiopian government regrets the loss of life as a result of skirmishes between the Sudanese army and local militias, and an investigation will be opened soon,” the Ethiopian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The statement added: “The government of Ethiopia hopes that the Sudanese government will exercise restraint, refrain from any escalation of the incident, and not take any measures that would escalate the situation.”
