Media satire “Succession” and post-apocalyptic series “The Last of Us” have the highest odds in this year’s Emmy nominations. The black humorous series “Succession” leads the list of nominations with 27, as the organizers announced on Wednesday. “The Last of Us” received 24 nominations, the social satire “The White Lotus” 23 and the football series “Ted Lasso” 21.

“Succession”, “Ted Lasso” and “The White Lotus” had already won many of the most coveted television awards in the world last year. Actors nominated include Jeff Bridges, Kieran Culkin, Daniel Radcliffe, Christian Applegate, Claire Danes, Jessica Chastain, Rachel Brosnahan, Kevin Hart and Elisabeth Moss.

Barack Obama is also nominated. The former US President might win an Emmy in the category “Best Storyteller” for the documentary series “Working: What We Do All Day”. Obama received his first Emmy in this category last year for his voice role in the Netflix documentary series Our Great National Parks. Obama’s wife Michelle is also nominated. She might win an award for the special show “The Light We Carry” with host Oprah Winfrey.

The Emmys winners are to be announced at a grand gala on September 18th. However, this is only the “currently planned” date, it said when the nominations were announced. A possible double strike might shake up the plans: Screenwriters in the USA have been on strike since May 2nd, and the actors were also faced with a possible work stoppage on Wednesday. “We hope that the union negotiations will come to a fair and quick result,” said the boss of the Emmy organizers, Frank Scherma, when announcing the nominations.
