Successful Transfer of Colruyt Stores: The Positive Impact on Jobs and Local Communities

In addition to the 19 stores that Colruyt did not want and which have not found a buyer, eight other stores are experiencing or could experience a more favorable outcome.

A solution was thus found for the Match stores in Woluwe St-Lambert, Fleurus and Smatch in Zele which are franchised under the Carrefour brand. Le Match de Leuze is now a franchise under the Delhaize brand. The one in Binche is taken over by an Intermarché franchisee. The stores in Thulin (Hensies) and Kessel-Lo are taken over by Delfood.

There remains one unknown: the Match store in Beaumont, the name of the buyer is not specified.

The transfers allow the transfer of 150 employees with their current salary conditions and the safeguarding of almost a quarter of the people affected by collective dismissal, out of the 690 initially announced, specifies management.

For logistics, discussions are still underway with potential buyers. However, no buyer has expressed interest in resuming the activities of other central services. The 174 people working in these services were informed of the legal notice period, closure compensation and early retirement agreements to which they are entitled. Support and reclassification plans have already been implemented, indicates management.

In total, sums up the management, “in this difficult economic context, nearly 1,150 jobs were ultimately saved by the transfer of stores to different brands“.
