Asuncion, IP Agency.-The event took place at the Ueno Arena of the National Secretariat of Sports and brought together more than 180 athletes representing 27 clubs from all over the country.
Ever Núñez, president of the Paraguayan Kickboxing Federation, highlighted the significance of the event and thanked everyone for their support in its realization.
He also highlighted that “after this Championship we are already preparing the Paraguayan team that will represent us in the South American Junior Championship and the Pan American Senior Championship, from October 30 to November 3 in Santiago de Chile.”
Likewise, the vice president of the federation, Carlos Morínigo, added that “this type of championships is essential for the development of athletes, the credibility of the sport for its practitioners and to position the discipline at the top.”
“At this Championship we showed that we are still growing. Today the federation has 40 members and we had a great participation at a time when the institution is projecting itself, together with the athletes, for international competitions,” he concluded.
Athletes from various locations in the country such as Concepción, Caaguazú, Encarnación, Hernandarias, Greater Asunción and Central met at the SND Complex for the great national combat sport meeting.
The protagonists of the great meeting between practitioners of the combat discipline highlighted the high level of the competition, as well as the impact that kickboxing has had on their personal and sporting development. After the excitement of having climbed into the ring to demonstrate their best performance, the fighters shared their emotions.
Rachel Melgarejo, from the Team Morínigo Academy in Villa Elisa, said that she has been training in taekwondo since she was 11 years old and kickboxing since she was 14. “I participated in two Pan American Games. In both, I won a gold medal for our country. They were competitions where the experience of meeting competitors from other countries, other cultures, was incredible and helped me grow a lot,” said Melgarejo.
Farid Núñez, from Hernandarias, also said that he has been training kickboxing since he was 10 years old. He does it with his father, who is a trainer. Later he went to a gym to continue improving his techniques in the sport. “If I had to describe kickboxing, I would say that it saved my life. It improved my performance at school, it kept me away from many not so good things and I have a lot to thank this sport for,” said the athlete.
Núñez also commented that he competed representing Paraguay in international events. “I competed in the South American Championship in Peru in 2019, where I obtained a podium in the Point Figting modality. I also obtained first place in Light kick, and second place in low kick,” he pointed out.
The Paraguayan fighter also offered a message for young people. “Analyze kickboxing as a disciplined sport that develops young people, not only to compete, but mainly to get away from the stress of everyday life, adding to that the fact that it is for good physical and mental development,” he concluded.
