Riyadh: Surgery to separate Syrian Siamese twins Bassam and Ihsan has been successful. The Syrian Siamese twins and their parents were brought to Riyadh from Turkey on May 22 in an air ambulance sent by Saudi Arabia. 32-month-old children have a total weight of 19 kg.

The lower part of the chest, abdomen, liver and intestines of the children were stuck together. Ihsan, a twin, has no kidneys and no reproductive organs. He also had a congenital heart defect.

The medical team assesses that the major deficiency in the organs will seriously affect the life of the child. Bassam’s condition is satisfactory. Dr. said that the surgery was considered successful by all criteria. Rabia said.

The process of separating Syrian conjoined twins Ihsan and Bassam started yesterday morning. As per King Salman’s instructions, he was brought to Riyadh earlier for surgery. The surgery was done in five stages and lasted for 7 hours. A 26-member medical team including consultants, specialists and paramedical staff participated in the operation.
