The liver was given to an elderly person who was under treatment after a donor was not available from his relatives. The liver was transplanted by an Omani surgical team under the supervision of the liver transplant team at King Fahd Specialist Hospital in Dammam. The liver surgery consultant and head of the liver transplantation committee at the Royal Hospital said that the operation was successfully completed in about eight hours. Salah bin Muhammad Al Jabri said.
Al Jabri said one of the difficulties faced during this type of surgery is finding a suitable patient to transplant these organs in a very short time and the availability of medical staff at the hospital to perform the surgery within 24 hours. Two children, aged nine and ten, who had been on proton dialysis for years, also received kidney transplants.
