During the police council for the Nivelles-Genappe area organized before the holidays, questions had been asked to divisional commissioner Pascal Neyman regarding control operations carried out in collaboration with other services in the previous weeks.
The zone chief had explained the interest of this kind of joint operations, which give visibility to the police, and which increase the risk of offenders being punished. This also plays a preventive role.
Recent investments to increase the number of officers in the “traffic” service and the “prevention” service also allow the police to be more available and to be able to plan this type of operation.
Confirmation on Friday August 11, with checks carried out from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the territory of Nivelles by the local police but also Customs and Excise, the federal highway police, the Central Office for the Suppression of Forgeries (OCRF) and the Tax brigade of the Walloon Region.
The results have just been made public and they are commensurate with the deployment noted by the citizens who have gone through the system. Thus, during these few hours, no less than 1,734 drivers were checked using the “sampler”, a device which makes it possible to quickly determine whether the air exhaled by the driver contains alcohol.
The breathalyzer too
In the event of a positive result, officers use traditional breathalyzers to determine a rate more accurately.
And in total, 33 minutes were written. With regard to drunk driving, three immediate withdrawals of driving licenses were decided for 15 days, a license was withheld for two hours, seven for three hours, and three for six hours. Four immediate withdrawals of the driving license for fifteen days following the consumption of narcotics were also ordered.
Minutes also found a driver’s license defect and seven technical control defects, plus two warnings for the same reason. This extensive control also gave rise to several immediate perceptions for offenses in terms of stowage, transport license, adequate equipment for a motorcyclist, or even for use of mobile phones while driving.
The police zone also used the new immediate transaction procedure for acts of contempt and possession of narcotics.
