The A400M carrying 92 Belgians and rights holders, as well as 13 Europeans, landed on Sunday at 6:27 p.m. at Melsbroek military airport, announced the FPS Foreign Affairs and Defense.
The plane took off on Saturday morning for Larnaca (Cyprus) before taking off once more the next day, early in the followingnoon, for Tel Aviv. In addition to the 92 Belgians and rights holders, 13 EU citizens were also evacuated from Israel. “These are French, Romanian and Luxembourg nationals,” the authorities said.

Foreign Affairs also reaffirmed its determination “to inform and help our compatriots in the region as best as possible”. “It was important for the government to provide stranded Belgians registered on Travelers Online with an air offer complementary to commercial flights in order to facilitate their return home. Belgium is the first country to have activated the European solidarity mechanism, so we also brought 13 European citizens back on board the flight,” said Federal Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib, quoted in a press release.
“Mission successful,” rejoiced Minister Ludivine Dedonder. “Less than 24 hours following the government’s request to send a plane, the Defense A400M was already ready in Cyprus to pick up Belgians, rights holders and other Europeans at Tel Aviv airport.”
