Men and machines worked 24 hours a day throughout the weekend to plane and then re-asphalt the traffic lanes from R0 to Brussels, between Waterloo and Groenendael. The objective was to complete the site before Monday at 04:00 in the morning. The bet is finally successful with several hours in advance.
“The last operations ended this Sunday at 5:00 p.m., and the signage that had been put in place for the closure will be removed from 6:00 p.m. All the operations that had been planned were able to take place without hazards, and the weather conditions enabled the teams to work at a sustained pace. We can reopen the relevant portion of the Ring at 8:00 p.m. this Sunday”, confirms Héloïse Wynandy, for Sofico.
This weekend of total closure of the R0 allowed the paving of the portion located between Waterloo and the limit of the Flemish region, but it is part of a larger project, awarded for 3 million euros.
The objective of Sofico and SPW Mobilité is to rehabilitate the lanes leading to Brussels from the R0 over 7 km between Braine-l’Alleud and Groenendael, with also the creation of an additional lane between the Mont-Saint- Jean and Waterloo, and a change in the curvature of the “Butte du Lion” ramp. The objective is to complete all of this site before the start of the school year, which will undoubtedly cause other closures to traffic during the next two weekends.
