The Brussels Minister of Mobility, Elke Van den Brandt, on Sunday described the 23rd edition of the car-free day organized in the Brussels-Capital Region as a “great success” at the end of mobility week.

“We do not deplore any major accident, the STIB network (the Brussels public transport company) was loaded but not saturated because it had planned reinforcements,” she underlined in a press release.

According to Minister Groen, who cites the police, the situation on the main roads was fluid, and users moved with courtesy. A few unimportant clashes were however recorded, according to Ms Van den Brandt. She also stressed that the motorists who drove in Brussels on Sunday “were overwhelmingly in possession of one of the 15,500 exemptions” issued by the authorities.

The open days of the STIB depot in Haren attracted 2,750 visitors. “Which shows once once more that the people of Brussels love their STIB,” commented the minister.
