ALGIERS – Algeria has succeeded in 60 years of independence to lay the foundations of accreditation in the country and to generalize its operations through the various ministerial departments, thus allowing economic enterprises to highlight their performance and market easily high quality products in domestic and overseas markets.
In this context, the director general of the Algerian Accreditation Body (Algerac), Nourredine Boudissa explained in an interview with APS that the certificates issued to the various laboratories and analysis and calibration companies, at their request , attest to the organizational and technical capacity of these companies in terms of testing, analysis, calibration, inspection or certification services for products, management systems or individuals.
For Mr. Boudissa, the priority given in recent years to the development of “Algerac” is likely to “strengthen the quality process initiated by the public authorities”.
This process, he said, is crowned by “the creation of a quality national infrastructure to improve the competitive capacity of companies and facilitate their integration into the world economy, in addition to concretizing the procedures for joining the country with several active international economic blocs”.
Algerac is now working to meet the challenge of adapting to demand, ensuring that it finds solutions adapted to the technical programs drawn up by the various ministerial departments in terms of accreditation, in particular following the industry sector has of the year 2023 “that of quality”.
To face this challenge, Mr. Boudissa underlined that the various ministerial departments, including the professional associations take care to adhere to the step of accreditation, document from now on required to confirm the performance of the company and the product.
Since its creation in 2005, under Executive Decree No. 466-05, Algerac has been working to gradually increase its capabilities to play a leading role as a fundamental national conformity assessment tool, particularly following its recognition by several Arab, African and European authorities.
These include the International Organization of Accreditation Bodies (International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation-ILAC) which it joined in 2017, the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) in (2011), the European Cooperation of Accreditation (EA) in (2017), the Arab Accreditation Organization (ARAC) in (2010), the Institute for Standardization and Metrology for Islamic Countries (SMIIC) in (2011) and the African Accreditation Organization in (2019).
Algerac intends to file a new application to add 3 other internationally recognized standards, including everything related to biological laboratories, certification of the quality management system and products, to obtain a totalal of 6 international standards.
According to Mr. Boudissa, the issuance of the accreditation certificate requires purely technical work for a full year, while carrying out the work in accordance with recognized international standards in order to be able to preserve the international recognition of Algerac.
The body has also signed cooperation agreements and memorandums of understanding with several countries, including Belgium, Tunisia, Mauritania, France, Korea, Turkey and Egypt, with the aim of developing the accreditation in different fields.
These advances are made possible thanks to the “great interest” of the country’s high authorities, which means that the organization is moving towards expanding the areas of intervention, particularly in the context of the ongoing process of export development. excluding hydrocarbons.
This approach also requires the mobilization of financial, human and material capacities and an intensification of training to enable human resources to master the evaluation process.
Algerac has contributed to the accreditation of 8 laboratories under the supervision of the Ministry of Commerce, with participation in reflection committees to help improve and strengthen the quality policy in several sectors with the aim of creating a control capable ensure product quality and compliance.
This transformation has allowed a positive increase in the activity of the organization during the years 2021 and 2022, reaching a growth rate of more than 40%, specified Mr. Boudissa.
