Puerto Rican knockout Subriel Matías conquered the vacant 140-pound world title of the International Boxing Federation (IBF) on Saturday, snatching the undefeated via knockout of Argentine Jeremías Ponce on the undercard held at The Armory in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Matías improved to 19-1, with all of his victories coming on the fast track.
In the clash once morest the gaucho, he knocked him down in the final seconds of the fifth round with a blow to the belly. At the bell and following five rounds of exchanging blows, Ponce’s corner threw in the towel.
The Argentine came into the fight with a 30-0 record and 20 anesthetized.

“First, thank God. He is the protagonist of everything that is happening today. To each of the people who are here. My mother, my wife, my daughter,” Matías reacted following the fight.
“I think it was 10 months in the works at this point and there was nothing to worry regarding. I really wanted to knock him out in the sixth. The assault was over and I was going to work harder. So, the corner decided to stop, ”he added.
After expressing that he was fine, Ponce made the right decision for his corner even though he wanted to continue fighting.
“They know me. They made the decision. Sometimes it’s making the decision a minute before rather than a minute later. It hurts because I wanted to win. I came to win and we mightn’t but I am grateful that I am healthy, which is the most important thing, ”she declared.
“I understand that the fight was even but a hand changes the fight. My corner saw that and I appreciate it,” she added.
