MONTREAL, Nov. 23, 2023 /CNW/ – The 2023-2027 Strategic Plan of the Office québécois de la langue française and the Commission de toponymie was tabled today by the Minister of the French Language in the National Assembly .
This plan is part of a context following the adoption, in June 2022, of the Act respecting the official and common language of Quebec, French, and underlines the importance of supporting and equipping workplaces so that all Quebecers can live, work and be served in French.
Highlights
Respect for linguistic rights and obligations; The place of French in Quebec; Compliance with standards and best practices in toponymy; An efficient organization for quality services. These issues are supported by five major directions: Strengthen respect for linguistic rights and obligations; Support and equip workplaces and the population linguistically; Report on the evolution of the linguistic situation in Quebec; Strengthen collaboration with partners of the Commission de toponymie; Develop the services and ways of working of the Office and the Commission. Under the Charter of the French Language, the Office québécois de la langue française has the mandate to monitor the evolution of the linguistic situation in Quebec and to report every five years to the Minister of the French Language. The Office’s mission is also to ensure compliance with the Charter and to ensure that French is the normal and usual language of work, communications, commerce, business and, in concert with the Ministry of Language French, of the Administration.
