Expert telecom consultant Parvez Iftikhar said that ‘It seems that this is a problem other than submarine cables, it is not only a problem of submarine cables. Because if there was a problem with submarine cables, it would be all over the internet, not just WhatsApp or certain YouTube channels.’

The telecom expert added, ‘I have also noticed that mobile internet is more of a problem, but home fixed line internet is a bit better. So it cannot be said that this is happening only because of submarine cables.’

Is the internet of Pakistan only affected by these cables? In response to this question, he said that if there is a problem in the main submarine cable, then there is also a problem in the countries through which it is passing, but if only the cable coming towards Pakistan after the T junction. If there is a problem in the section, then there will be a disruption in the Internet only for Pakistan.

Asad Baig, a digital rights expert, while talking to Independent Urdu, said that ‘a lot of confusion has been created in this matter. Sometimes it is said that internet is slow because of VPN or web management system is running slow. And now the submarine cables are being said to be faulty and being repaired.’

Asad Baig added that internet is a basic service and shutdown of basic facility is like a national security issue.

“Business is affected by internet slowness, freelancers’ work is at a standstill. So the tax payers will also have to bear the cost. I think this is an effect of the firewall being installed directly on the system instead of being tested first.’
