At the Tokyo Motor Show, Subaru unveiled not one, but several new models. The brand wants to be resolutely sporty and dazzled the spectators with its electric car of more than 1000 hp.

Subaru has had great success in car rallying. But since the Japanese manufacturer officially withdrew from the WRC world championship in 2008, there are only private Imprezas on the tracks. And if Subaru still offers models for the pleasure of driving overseas, the time has been, for several years, for the economy in Europe.

An exciting new model

Subaru now shows that there is still a flame that is just waiting to be rekindled. At the Tokyo Motor Show, the Japanese not only presented new STI versions of several models, including the electric Solterra, but also wowed spectators with the STI E-RA concept, a electric racing car developing 1088 hp (800 kW), supplied by four motors distributed on each wheel.

The impressive electric car might well participate in the Electric GT championship, since it meets the technical conditions.

Little information on driving performance

Each engine can be controlled independently, allowing for fully variable all-wheel drive with dynamic torque vectoring, providing the benefits of dynamic driving. Electric power comes from a relatively small battery with a capacity of 60 kWh. We do not know for the moment the autonomy of the racing car. The Japanese also did not share details regarding its driving performance. It is very likely that the vehicle will participate in the Electric GT championship, since it fulfills the technical conditions.

The name of the racing car, however, is confusing. Because RA is short for Record Attempt. Subaru also announced that the four-wheel-drive car will show its mettle next year at the Nürburgring North Loop. However, the Japanese are aiming for a lap speed of 6 minutes and 40 seconds, which is far from being a record for electric cars. This one is currently held by the Volkswagen ID.R, with a time of 6:05.33.

Next year, the car should show what it has in the belly on the northern loop of the Nürburgring.
