Stylianidis: Visit to the port of Piraeus, what he said about ticket prices

Christos Stylianidis, Minister of Shipping and Island Policy in the context of a meeting on security issues, was in Piraeus, speaking about the biggest priority at the moment.

“As the prime minister has said, safety issues, especially in coastal shipping, are non-negotiable, there is no room for tolerance. Although we are very high, human error lurks everywhere and we must prevent this cruel possibility, which life has shown us many times to be invincible. It was a very good meeting, briefing, the executives of the central port authority informed us about all the control and inspection procedures we do, we saw some points that can be improved. The ferry connection is going well this year as well, we will continue in this direction but I must insist that it pass as a general culture, never accepting a reduction in the issue of safety from anyone. We, as citizens, must demand that safety comes first. For us it is the big issue, for this there will be frequent inspections and meetings, not only in Piraeus but also in other ports” he said.

Asked about ticket prices e.ghe repeated his words in parliament two days ago. “We are in consultation with the Ministry of Finance on the issue of VAT, we will look at the general economic policy, the budgetary restrictions and this will be a general government decision. We still have a ways to go before we have all the data in front of us. We have already started audits for the phenomenon of profiteering, we have done around 1500 audits, and we have found around 21-23 violations that have been punished, we will continue and for this reason a case has ended up in the Competition Commission and we await its decision so that if this the complaint is valid, to be punished in a very severe way to send the message” he said.
