“The motion of no confidence is a tip to justice that it cannot serve such a major issue, for which it is responsible, and shed light on such a tragic event,” he emphasized and added:
“The motion of no confidence of the opposition is also misplaced because it is filed just before the European elections against a government that was elected a year ago with an overwhelming majority even though it experienced this event, before the last two electoral contests” he said speaking in the Parliament.
He then spoke about the logic of “populism, extremes and “Trumpism”, saying characteristically: “It is not a small thing for democracy to enter, often, in such processes that essentially question the popular will itself. And I would say that we have to be very careful, at a time when Democracy is being attacked everywhere by authoritarian regimes worldwide.
And while in Russia as well as in the United States we all discuss and criticize “Trumpism”, we actually come to reinforce the logic of extreme populism. In everything we see conspiracies, we see that there is an attempt to cover up specific events, while the facts are still in front of us, we know them and the Justice is trying in every way to analyze them in order to reach a judicial decision”.
As the Minister of Shipping stated, “the whole effort of the opposition is a tug-of-war between the opposition parties, as to who will be first, second or third in the polls” and noted that “the message being sent abroad with so much extreme conflict and toxicity harms the country at a time when its image and credibility are on the rise.”
