Sturm Graz has found the successor to David Affengruber, with whom the champions might not agree on a contract extension: Emanuel Aiwu signed a contract until 2028.
The 23-year-old moved from Rapid to Cremonese in Serie A in the summer of 2022. Last year, following the club’s relegation, he played on loan for Birmingham City in the second English league, under coach Wayne Rooney until January. Aiwu was also relegated with Birmingham.
Sturm’s sports director Andreas Schicker spoke of an “absolute dream player” for central defense. “Emanuel is still a young player, but he has already gained a lot of experience in the extremely competitive English second division and, above all, in the European top league Serie A.”
LASK was also said to be interested in Aiwu. He has now travelled to Sturm’s training camp in Irdning.
