Mühlviertel/LINZ. “Cinema – that’s why films are made!” The makers of “Killviertel” proved that this slogan is not just an empty phrase. The Rohrbachers Martin Pühringer and Bernd Halmer as well as the Welser Bernd Kaser were pregnant with the “slightly different local film” for seven years. On Saturday they celebrated their world premiere at the Hollywood Megaplex in Pasching. The film was shown in three cinemas. What the Mühlviertel filmmakers delivered: almost two and a half hours of action without much of a breather. “Killviertel” tells the story of Miki and Benji, two good friends and neighbors who live in the quiet rural region of the Mühlviertel. Miki is an impulsive, chaotic and easily irritable person who tends to quickly get caught up in small things. He also has no luck in love and is constantly stressed with his ex-girlfriend, which puts additional strain on his emotions.
Murdering maniac
However, the seemingly quiet lives of the two friends are shattered when their mutual friend Victor mysteriously dies. At first it is suspected that Victor may have committed suicide, but doubts regarding this theory quickly grow. The number of mysterious deaths in the Mühlviertel is increasing, and it turns out that a ruthless serial killer with a mask is behind it.
The tension reaches its climax when this serial killer also pays Benji a house visit and unleashes a brutal fight for survival. Miki and Benji find themselves caught in a deadly game of cat and mouse where they must use all their skills and ingenuity to escape death. The film is somewhat reminiscent of classics like “Scream” or “Final Destination”. But because Miki and Benji also act as an idiot duo, you can definitely sense a touch of “Scary Movie”.
The film is driven primarily by the soundtrack – no wonder, since film music is Martin Pühringer’s true passion. And the educational mission is also fulfilled. Because the inclined seer knows followingwards what is the most common cause of death among farmers in the Mühlviertel – this much can be revealed: it is not murder.
