Stunning Earth Images from the International Space Station: Sunrise and Moonset Photos by NASA

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) publishes beautiful images of the Earth taken from the International Space Station (ISS) from time to time. Here are some images selected by the sorae editorial department.

This is the sunrise taken over the South Pacific (at an altitude of 424 km) on June 25, 2023 (Japan time). The ISS, which orbits the earth in regarding 90 minutes, experiences 16 sunrises and sunsets per day. Feel the beauty in the layers of the atmosphere dyed in rainbow colors.

This is the moonset taken over the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Namibia (419 km altitude) on July 5, 2023 (Japan time). The image was taken two days following the full moon, but the image of the moon is slightly distorted because it is viewed through the atmosphere.
