A scientific investigation has shown that the subjective well-being of Humans varies throughout life. In this way, it decreases between 9 and 16 years of age, but then increases and reaches its maximum at 70 years of age. However, it falls once more at age 96, according to a recent study released by Neuroscience News.
In this way, to achieve its conclusions in the studyexperts examined available data from 443 studies involving 460,902 people.
Susanne Bücker, in charge of the research, revealed: “We focused on changes in three main components of subjective well-being: life satisfaction, positive emotional states and negative emotional states. Positive emotional states showed an overall decrease since 9 to 94 years, while negative emotional states fluctuated slightly between 9 and 22 years, then decreased until 60 years and later increased once more.

The teacher and researcher considered that “this might be related to the fact that in very old people, physical performance decreases, health often deteriorates and social contacts are reduced, especially because their peers die.”
According to specialists, a slight decrease in life satisfaction must be considered in adolescence, a stage of physiological changes and new aspects of social life. However, the curve increases once more in early adulthood.
Science Daily quoted expert Bücker as saying: “Overall, the study shows a positive trend over a broad period of life, if we consider life satisfaction and negative emotional states.”
Finally, contributes Rt, the work highlights that we must “consider and promote subjective well-being with its various components throughout life. The results of the analysis might provide a guide to develop intervention programs, especially those aimed at maintaining or improve subjective well-being in advanced stages of life”.
