Study points out ten states with more occurrences of speeding

Cobli, FleetTech that facilitates and enhances fleet management, analyzed on its platform data related to the severity of speeding by vehicles (lasting more than 60 seconds) in Brazil, during the months of January to April 2023. According to the survey, approximately 100,000 speeding behaviors were identified per day. Of the total, 43% of speeding were very serious, that is, people driving 51% above the limit allowed by the road or by company policy.

In addition to bringing national data, the study proportionally lists the ten states with the highest incidence of speeding and also their capitals. In first place, appears Tocantins, followed by Mato Grosso and Bahia. The full study can be accessed here.

The latest report by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Global Status Report on Road Safety, revealed that Brazil was the third country with the most traffic deaths worldwide. It is no coincidence that Yellow May – an international movement that draws society’s attention to the high rate of deaths and injuries in traffic – aims to raise awareness, throughout the month, of drivers, pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists regarding the importance of adopting behaviors safe in traffic, respecting the laws and avoiding dangerous practices, such as using a cell phone while driving, driving at high speeds, not wearing a seatbelt. “Understanding risk behaviors helps to propose discussions and pass on feedback that evolve the way of driving. We prepared the study with the aim of making society aware of how the data help to understand the scenario and direct actions for safer traffic”, says Omar Jarouche, CMO of Cobli.

Ranking and discoveries between states

Tocantins was classified as the state with the highest incidence of speeding by vehicles. In the sequence, appear: Mato Grosso, Bahia, Rondônia, Roraima, Maranhão, Goiás, Rio Grande do Sul, Ceará and Pará.

The states of Roraima (32%) and Rio Grande do Sul (33%) were the ones that least had very serious speed behaviors identified. They are well below the national results in this behavior (43%). Roraima also stood out for the highest percentage of average speeding (9%) among all states.

Mato Grosso (49%) was not only the state in Brazil that, in percentage terms, committed the most serious speeding excesses, but it was also the only one that had more serious speeding than serious and medium ones.

Discoveries between the capitals
In the capitals of the ten states in the ranking, the percentage of very serious speeding was always lower than that observed in the result for Brazil, except for Porto Velho (47%) and Cuiabá (47%).

In Salvador, the percentage of very serious speeding was 14%, far from the national 43%. Serious events accounted for 77% of the total.

Technology to reduce accidents

According to the National Register of Traffic Offenses (Renainf), speeding is the main cause of fatal traffic accidents. “Technologies for fleets, such as telemetry and videotelemetry, are essential for having relevant and useful data for safety. They centralize billions of data and act proactively to help the manager evolve processes and be agile in decision making”, explains Omar. “With this information in hand, it is possible to work, for example, with shorter feedback cycles and develop incentives for a legitimate transformation in driver behavior while driving”, he concludes.
