Study: long periods of celibacy have an impact on men’s health – LINFO.re

The results of a recent Danish study showed that breakups and long periods of celibacy affect men’s health.

prone to inflammation

A recent study on the consequences of celibacy was carried out by researchers from the University of Copenhagen (Denmark).
The latter studied 26 years of love life of nearly 10,000 people, aged 48 to 62, according to CNews. The results, published in the Journal of Epidemiology & Community Health and spotted by Slate, have shown that men who have experienced many breakups and years of celibacy would be more prone to inflammation than the others. “Chronic systemic inflammation plays a crucial role in driving several age-related pathologies, e.g. cancer, cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes…“, said the specialists.
Men, affected by this situation, have a 17% higher rate of inflammation than the reference group. This inflammation is also higher (12%) for those who have been single for at least 7 years.

For women

This correlation is not observed in women. The researchers noted that thestudy was restricted to a relatively smaller group of women, this might explain the non-significant results. Thus, it is not possible to draw a conclusion.
Scientists have, however, indicated that women’s inflammatory health is less affected by celibacy than that of men. According to them, men are more likely to externalize their sadness during a breakup, it might “influence inflammatory levels differently“.
