Study: Aliens would consider Earth uninhabited

Swiss scientists published on the Arxiv service, a preprint of a study on whether alien astronomers might understand that there is life on Earth. To analyze exoplanets, terrestrial astronomers study the properties of their surface and atmosphere using infrared and ultraviolet radiation.

Due to the viewing angle and the peculiarities of the season, it would be problematic to identify the presence of life on Earth. The spectra of the Earth and its thermal radiation can correspond to both favorable characteristics for life and unfavorable ones. At the same time, it seriously differs in different parts of the planet and in different seasons.

This was shown by analysis of data from an infrared probe aboard NASA’s Aqua satellite. This means that if alien astronomers from a distant galaxy use the same methods as those on Earth, it will be very difficult to analyze and interpret the data obtained.

Recently astronomers found a potentially habitable planet covered in water. It is located a hundred light years from Earth.
