students of the Higher School of Medicine of the National University of Mar del Plata do not have their own dining room for the institution and demand that the authorities speed up the procedures to be able to recover it: they assure that they have been studying for more than 500 days with no other option than to go and get their accessible food 15 blocks from the institution.
As explained from the student center, until the outbreak of the pandemic, the dining room they had was a structure of the National Institute of Epidemiology (INE) with which they share land. However, with the pandemic, that space was once once more used for the previous purpose: as a canteen for INE workers.
The conflict, in this way, goes back to the return to face-to-face classes -also, to the conflict over the division of spaces and the fence that separates to both institutions-, in July 2021: since then, without a dining room, they warn that the only alternative they have is to go get food -at affordable prices such as those offered by the University- 15 blocks from there, to the Faculty of Law.
“After the pandemic the operation of the dining room was never resumed“, explained Pía, one of the members of the student center, to what digital. In this sense, in a note delivered in recent days to the management of the University, they state that since March They have been holding meetings with the authorities in order to deal with the lack of their own dining room.
Given this, he assured that the only answers they found on the part of the UNMdP Welfare Secretariat and the Undersecretary of School Welfare, are that they are problems related to the recent creation of the academic unit and that, in addition, they are having problems in the bidding process for a new dining space in the vicinity of the ESM.
“They are not finding a way around the space we need because on the land that belongs to the school there is no place to make a dining room“, he explained and pointed out that the alternative they are looking for is to find a space that is maximum 5 blocks around to set up the dining room: from the student center they affirm that the physical space is practically the only thing that is missing for it to start working.
“ESM students We cannot continue to see our rights relegated due to the fact that it is a new career, a response that we have heard repeatedly. It is the responsibility of the University authorities that all students, whatever the career we study, we have full access to the corresponding services“, they raised in a letter addressed to the authorities.
