CHAIRMAN of the Student Executive Council (Dema) of UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, Setiawan Al-Fadly, reminded students and the academic community to take a role in maintaining the integrity and integrity of the nation, especially following the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK).

The 2024 election must not become a field for social disintegration and conflict. One of them, he continued, is through efforts to strengthen peaceful politics in the midst of heated political temperatures. The political contest for the presidential election which has drained the nation’s energy for more than a year should be resolved at the Constitutional Court trial. The Constitutional Court’s constitutional legitimacy should make the public aware to stop fighting over contestation.

“The Constitutional Court’s decision must be the end of endless political contestation, political contestation that tears apart the fabric of nationality, political contestation that divides friendship. Over the last two years, the Indonesian public has been hit by a pandemic of disintegration due to political choices. “The Constitutional Court’s decision should also be a bond of brotherhood between us,” said Fadly in a seminar on strengthening students’ political literacy following the 2024 elections, at the UIN Sunan Kalijaga Library Theatrical Building, Monday (29/4).

He believes that the momentum for national reconciliation is very urgent, both by the political elite and the grassroots. Reconciliation, for him, is a national reconciliation process to end confrontation. Reconciliation is very possible in order to maintain social cohesion in society.

Even so, according to Fadly, national reconciliation is not regarding merging two political camps. Reconciliation is collective moral awareness (collective conscience) which is transformed into noble political practice by prioritizing the interests of the nation.

“Reconciliation is a model of political acceptance of the election process in order to eliminate the potential for political unrest in grassroots society. However, in a democracy, the power of checks and balances must be maintained as social control. “In this context, the commitment of students and youth has a strategic position,” he said.

Reporting from Between, Previously, the MK stated that it rejected all applications from presidential and vice presidential candidate number 1 Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar in the 2024 Presidential Election Results Dispute (PHPU) case. The MK also rejected all applications submitted by presidential and vice presidential candidate number 3 Ganjar Pranowo -Mahfud MD.

“The ruling, adjudicating, in the exception, rejects the respondent’s exception and the related party’s exception in its entirety. In the main petition, rejects the applicant’s application in its entirety,” said Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court Suhartoyo when reading the decision at the Constitutional Court Building, Jakarta, Monday (22/4).
