Miami Beach declares a state of emergency in the US state of Florida. The reason for this is the onslaught of party-mad students and the associated riots.

In view of the onslaught of party-mad students and the associated riots, Miami Beach in the US state of Florida has declared a state of emergency. In addition, a night curfew will be imposed next weekend because of the so-called spring break parties, announced Mayor Dan Gelber. Five people had previously been injured in two shootings.

Miami Beach attracts numerous students from all over the country during the spring break every year. The city is notorious for excessive drinking, which often leads to fights.

“We can’t take it anymore,” said Gelber. “We didn’t ask for spring break. We don’t advertise it. We don’t support it. We only suffer it.”

The curfew announced by the mayor is to apply in the main nightlife district from midnight to 6 a.m. from Thursday to Monday. Among other things, the famous Ocean Drive is affected. Such a curfew was also imposed last year.
