Students in the US continue their anti-war protests as they held rallies and decided to continue their sit-ins and demand an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Several schools have condemned university presidents who in recent days called for police involvement to remove students.
Columbia University continues negotiations with the students participating in the campus occupation at the New York school. The university suspended the deadline it had given students to evacuate the faculty. At the same time, the Senate approved a resolution on Friday to create a task force to examine the leadership of the Administration, which last week asked the police to intervene in the occupations, resulting in several clashes and more than 100 arrests.
The administration, trying to calm the tension, sent an email to students Friday night saying a police presence “at this time” would be counterproductive, while adding that they hoped negotiations would show “concrete signs of progress.” In the letter sent to students, university leadership said it “supports the ongoing conversations with students.”
Demonstrators across the country are demanding that economic ties to Israel be severed and that American companies that enable or finance the conflict withdraw.
Cal Humboldt University had given protesters inside the building since Monday an ultimatum to leave by Friday. The deadline passed and few of the protesters left, with the majority of students remaining in the occupation.

In Colorado, police “invaded” Denver’s Auraria campus, home to three universities and colleges, on Friday, arresting regarding 40 protesters on trespassing charges.
The decisions to call in law enforcement, which led to hundreds of arrests across the country, prompted faculty members at universities in California, Georgia and Texas to initiate or pass votes of no confidence in their leadership. They are largely symbolic reprimands, without the power to remove their presidents.
But the tensions are piling pressure on school officials, who are already trying to resolve the protests as May graduation ceremonies approach.
At the same time, the anti-war movement is being transferred to Europe. In France, students at the Paris Institute of Political Studies, whose alumni include President Emmanuel Macron, blocked access to a campus building and classes were held online.
Powerful scene happening now at Sciences Po in Paris as students chant in unison:
“We are here, we are here! For the honor of Palestine and all those who are murdered, even if Macron doesn’t want it, we are here!”
