The Viennese Jakob Gonano was appointed the new federal manager and now, together with the Upper Austrian, leads the largest student organization in Austria.
Innsbruck (OTS) – With 90.83%, the 20-year-old Upper Austrian Charlotte Stütz was elected the new Federal Chairwoman at the 51st Ordinary Bundestag in the Innsbruck Exhibition Hall. In addition to Stütz, the Viennese Jakob Gonano was appointed the new federal manager of Austria’s largest association for schoolchildren.
“Anyone looking for consistent representation is in the right place with the student union. It is not for nothing that we have been shaping Austrian education policy for more than 50 years, it is not for nothing that we regularly set clear accents in the educational landscape with our work and it is not for nothing that we will also have 27 of the 29 mandates in the federal student council in the coming year. We are the association that actually stands up for students across the country, for example with our mental health referendum, in which we were able to reach over 100,000 signatures. School can be so much more: a place where you are prepared for life, not just for exams. Next year we want to put a special focus on the upcoming EU elections and provide even better information to schools. We want to reach as many students as possible in the coming year and take their concerns to the negotiating table. Because if you want to speak with a strong voice, you have to listen carefully beforehand,” said the newly elected federal chairwoman of the student union, Charlotte Stütz.
“We have big projects planned for the coming school year. It was and will always be important to us as an association to be the first point of contact for all students. With us and through us, everyone can actively participate in shaping Austrian education policy. Every person who is involved in the student union contributes to the fact that we have been doing such successful work for more than 50 years. We would like to thank all members who have campaigned for quality education over the past few years. With 135 of 163 provincial student representative mandates throughout Austria, we can also guarantee this for the coming school year. We are particularly pleased that the next federal school spokesman will come from the ranks of the student union,” says the new federal manager Jakob Gonano.
With more than 30,000 members, the student union is the largest student organization in Austria, in which the members volunteer. Due to its wide range of services, such as the school legal emergency hotline and various further training courses, it is considered an important contact point for schoolchildren. In addition, she brings her demands to the Federal Student Council (BSV), in which she has 26 out of 29 mandates in the 2022/23 school year. The federal school spokeswoman Flora Schmudermayer also comes from the student union.
