Because of severe blood poisoning, the 19-year-old is in acute danger of death. Finally, parts of the fingers and legs have to be amputated.
A well-known procedure: You order from an Asian restaurant, but you can’t eat everything. So the rest goes in the fridge for lunch the next day. A 19-year-old student from the USA did the same thing. He ate the leftovers his roommate had left over from the chicken noodles the night before. But he had no idea what the consequences would be. He developed abdominal pain, began to vomit, and suffered from chills, general weakness, chest pain, shortness of breath, stiff neck, and blurred vision. To make matters worse, his skin also developed a purple discoloration – the sure sign of blood poisoning (sepsis). Eventually a friend took him to the hospital.
The 19-year-old man was killed, according to an edition of the “New England Journal” Admitted to the Massachusetts General Hospital Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) as of March 2021 due to “shock, multiple organ failure and rash”. The student was so ill that he had to be helicoptered to another hospital’s intensive care unit for further treatment. He had no acquaintances allergieshad been vaccinated in childhood and was not a heavy drinker.
The YouTube channel “Chubbyemu” run by Dr. Bernard Hsu, a licensed toxicologist, released a Feb. 17 Video of the case. It has since been viewed over 1 million times. In the video, Dr. Bernhard that the severe symptoms suffered by the patient (named JC in the video) were likely due to an aggressive bacterial infection.
Man dies following overdosing on 200 coffees
Diagnose: Neisseria meningitidis
Blood tests showed that his blood contained the bacterium Neisseria meningitidis (meningococci). dr Bernard explains: “When there are bacteria in the blood, the blood vessels throughout the body dilate, causing the blood pressure sinks and the organ can no longer be supplied with oxygen.” Further: “Small clots form everywhere, which settle in small blood vessels and block blood flow. “When his hands and feet get cold, they become deprived of oxygen.” When the skin tissue is no longer supplied with blood, it turns purple and begins to rot and die. Although the patient’s condition stabilized, gangrene developed on the fingers and legs to the feet. He had to have part of all 10 fingers amputated, as well as both legs below the knees. 26 days later, the patient regained consciousness – and his life was changed forever.
It turns out that although JC had received his first meningococcal vaccine, he did not get the recommended booster four years later when he was 16 years old. He might have saved himself the ordeal.

Origin of the bacteria unclear
Meningococci are transmitted exclusively from person to person by droplet infection, eg when coughing or sneezing. JC’s roommate had thrown up following eating some of the meal the night before, which JC was unaware of before starting to eat.
Sepsis is a life-threatening response to infection that occurs when the immune system overreacts to infection and begins damaging the body’s tissues and organs. It might not be clarified how the bacteria got into the food.
