STT has started a pre-trial investigation into office allowances of Ukmergė district council members

“On September 29, a pre-trial investigation was started in order to clarify the information received and to assess whether there was any abuse in the allocation of benefits to the members of the Ukmergė District Municipal Council to cover the expenses related to their activities as council members”, STT representative Julija Gorovniovaitė told BNS.

A pre-trial investigation is carried out in connection with the embezzlement, misuse, and falsification of documents.

Currently, STT is conducting pre-trial investigations into the payments of 13 municipal council members: Šiauliai City, Mažeikiai District, Neringa, Šilutė District, Pagėgii, Kaunas City, Kaunas District, Jonava District, Ignalina District, Vilnius City, Lazdijai, Alytus, Ukmergė Districts.

The investigation was started by publicist Andriis Tapinas and his team to further publicize information about the expenses of members of the country’s municipal councils.

As in other municipalities, the publication mainly focuses on the refusals of Ukmergė council members for fuel, when a dozen different tank cards are used for this purpose.

The prosecutor’s office also conducts investigations into the possible violation of public interest in the allocation of benefits to members of municipal councils.

When a political crisis arose in the country due to the clerical expenses of the council members, the ruling conservatives proposed holding early elections to the Seimas, but the parliament rejected such an initiative, and Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė, who initially promised to resign, did not do so.
