The Northern Regional Directorate of the National Office for Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) – Water Branch, pointed out that several structuring projects have been carried out to enable the Al Hoceima wastewater treatment plant to support population growth and economic activity.
The management indicated, in an explanatory note following the publication of articles on the emission of odors from the Al Hoceima wastewater treatment plant, that the station was built by the municipality in 1996 and adopts the technology of activated sludge for wastewater treatment, given that it is one of the latest technologies adopted internationally for wastewater treatment, stating that “activated sludge technology is distinguished by high productivity and the production of quantities amounts of sludge, which can sometimes cause the emission of odors inside the station”.

This station was transferred to the Office in 2004 within the framework of a contract for the delegated management of the liquid sanitation service, noted the same source, stressing that the Office carried out a project to renovate and extend this station in 2011, with a budget of approximately 130 million dirhams (MDH), which has increased its daily capacity to 9,600 m3, in order to meet the city’s needs until 2025.

The same source recalled that the Office has carried out several structuring projects aimed at ensuring the continuity of the operation of the station’s equipment and machines, in order to support demographic growth and economic activity in the city of Al Hoceima. , in particular during the summer period when the flow of wastewater reaches very high levels, which requires the use of the station at its maximum capacity and the taking of certain measures during this period, in order to ensure the treatment of wastewater under conditions that comply with current national and international standards.
