Structural fire affects gas deposit in La Cisterna and forces 1,500 people to evacuate

One A large-scale structural fire affected a gas cylinder depot in the early hours of the morning, located on Calle Carvajal and Calle Ciencias, in the commune of La Cisterna. The incident was declared following one in the morning and led to the concurrence of cars from 25 fire companies and police personnel to evacuate the residents of the place.

“Approximately 1,500 people had to be evacuated from two towers near the site”noted the prefect(s) of the South Prefecture, Lieutenant Colonel Jorge Molina Salas. Witnesses and first reports detail several explosions of the gas cylinders, product of the flames.

However, on balance there are no victims. “There is a completely destroyed neighboring house detailed Colonel Molina. No deaths or significant injuries have been reported so far. Yes, the commotion that occurred as a result of the fire was important.”

The officer explained that Due to the explosions, evacuation work was made difficult. “It was complex, because of the heat load, important explosions were recorded and because of the location of the surrounding buildings.”

Finally, the fire was controlled. Asked regarding the origin of the fire and the possibility that the affected warehouse was illegal, Colonel Molina explained that this is a matter of investigation.
