Strong squalls are currently sweeping through many parts of the country. The first warnings have already been issued in many areas of Austria. Parts of Styria and Upper Austria are particularly affected. The Austrian severe weather center has already declared a red alert in Vienna, Burgenland and Lower Austria. This is where the gusts are said to be strongest.

Wind peaks up to 110 km/h

“The peak of the storm is still ahead of us,” said the meteorologists at the Austrian Severe Weather Center (uwz). Today’s Saturday is just the beginning. Storm gusts of between 70 and 80 km/h are expected in the north and east of the country, especially on Monday night and until midday. A particularly yeasty storm is expected on the eastern edge of the Alps in Austria. Gusts of up to 110 km/h are sweeping around there.

South is spared

However, the west and south of Austria can breathe a sigh of relief. In Vorarlberg, Tyrol, Carinthia in southern Styria and southern Burgenland, there are currently no squalls of this magnitude in sight. Here it remains rather calm or slightly windy.
