The Norwegian top man Jarl Magnus Riiber prevented Austria from triumphing in the Nordic Combined in the first World Cup competition of the new year. Behind the world champion, who won the sprint in a group of three, four Austrians finished second to fifth in Oberstdorf on Saturday. Ramsau double winner Johannes Lamparter missed his next success in second place by one second. Third-placed Stefan Rettenegger was 3.3 behind.
Thomas Rettenegger (4th) and Franz-Josef Rehrl (5th), who were leading following the jumping, were already considerably behind. Riiber celebrated his fifth win of the season, his 62nd overall. A compact competition follows on Sunday in the Allgäu.
