A great fire was registered in the chemical plant Carus Chemical located in La Salle, Illinois in United States.
La Salle Fire Chief, Jerry Janicksaid they responded to the phone call regarding a fire at the plant around 9:00 (local time)
Local media reported that there was an explosion at the production plant and the shock wave was perceptible in the area.

Jerry Janick noted that the fire caused significant damage to the building, and a shelter-in-place order was issued for areas north and west of the plant as a precaution.
We are still bringing in additional equipment to assist in the final extinction and investigation.

The La Salle Police Department reported that a green oxidizing chemical has been released from the fire, for which it asked the population not to touch it, as it can be harmful to health.

Control chemical plant fire
At a news conference shortly following noon (local time), Fire Chief Janick said the fire was under control but not extinguished.
The official added that no injuries have been reported and all the workers at the plant left on time.
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced that they are monitoring the situation and will respond to the site.
In images provided by American television channels, it was possible to observe that the firefighters were still working to extinguish it, from which huge columns of thick black smoke were coming out.
Through his Facebook account, the mayor of LaSalle, Jeff Groveinformed that the fire is under control and that there was no need to carry out evacuations.
So far the reasons for the fire are unknown.
