Strong encryption for Nextcloud desktop apps

Nextcloud desktop apps for Windows, macOS and Linux are up to date. Version 3.8 has just been released and is getting ready for the very recent Nextcloud Hub 4 update.

In our March 23 edition, we told you about the release of NextCloud Hub 4 (version 26). To synchronize data between your open source Cloud and your computer, you need an application. The clients have just been updated to version 3.8. They are available for free download at this address. New for Linux: the AppImage format.

With Hub 4 and version 3.8.0 of the desktop client, two improvements have been made to the end-to-end encryption. First, sharing. Previously, after selecting a folder for end-to-end encryption, users could work in that folder and access it from all their clients, mobile and desktop, but not share it. It is now possible for the human resources team to share their folders containing confidential files.

The second feature brings File Drop at E2EE. You may already be using File Drop, the Nextcloud feature that allows your external staff to easily upload files to a secure cloud folder via a hyperlink. With the new Nextcloud Hub 4 version, File Drop now includes the option to upload files to end-to-end encrypted folders.
