Faced with the phenomenon, the ‘Femmes et AVC’ collective has just launched a prevention campaign with the hashtag #Agir.
L’Accident Cerebral Vascular (CVA) is the leading cause of death in womenin France, but the good news is that it can be avoided in 80% of cases, writes the ‘Femmes et AVC’ collective.
One in four women will have a stroke in her lifetime
One figure sends shivers down the spine: one in four women will have a AVC in his life and 50 women die every day of a stroke in France. The CVA must be taken care of as soon as possible otherwise, in 30% of the cases one observes a death.
How to take care of yourself? You should already take your blood pressure. Check your cholesterol which is and remains the enemy of the arteries and know your ‘sugar level’ (diabetes). Also check if the heart rhythm is good (heart rhythm disorders are one of the consequences of possible strokes). Finally, it is necessary to maintain a good physical activity, especially not to smoke and to avoid being overweight.
50 women die every day from stroke
The Vaincre l’AVC website allows you to perform a test to find out if the person is at risk or not. In all cases, epidemiological data have shown over the last 20 years a more marked increase in the risk of myocardial infarction in women than in men before the age of 652: + 19% vs. + 9.9% (while the incidence decreases in both sexes beyond 65 years).
Mouth distortion and difficulty speaking
Note that the risk of stroke increases from the age of 25 with a major age around 70 years. The main symptoms of stroke are the deformation of the mouth and the difficulty of speaking or the paralysis of an arm or a leg; in all these cases, call the emergency services immediately.
