The video shows the detained men sitting in a parking lot while military vehicles and soldiers move around them. In some videos, men march across a field with arms raised as armed Israeli soldiers watch. In another, five people, who appear to be blindfolded, sit with their hands tied behind their backs in a soccer goal, with an Israeli flag hanging from the crossbar.
The location in the video is Yarmouk Stadium in Gaza City. This location has been verified by Storyful, a social media monitoring organization.
A spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces told the Sky News media group that it is detaining and interrogating people suspected of involvement in terrorist activities.
Those found not to be involved in such activities following screening are said to be released.
“Detained persons are treated according to international law. Terrorist suspects often have to hand over their clothes so that they can be searched to make sure that they are not hiding explosive vests or other weapons,” commented a military representative.
He also pointed out that the clothes of detainees are not immediately returned due to the suspicion that they may contain tools that might be used for hostile purposes (eg knives).
“Clothes are returned to detainees when it is possible to do so.”
The footage echoed similar images that expose Israeli tactics that have already drawn widespread condemnation.
Some of the detained men seen in the earlier footage were quickly identified as civilians with no apparent ties to Hamas.
