It is a coronation without surprise for Erling Haaland. The Norwegian striker, winner of a historic cup/championship/Champions League treble with Manchester City, was named Premier League best player for 2023 on Tuesday.
In his first season with City, aged 23, Haaland scored 52 goals in all competitions.
Haaland ahead of Stones or de Bruyne
The other candidates for the title of best player, awarded by the Professional Footballers’ Association of England, were John Stones and Kevin de Bruyne, Haaland’s teammates at the Citizens, the two Arsenal players Bukayo Saka (named best young player in the year) and Martin Odegaard, as well as Harry Kane, who left Tottenham this summer for Bayern Munich.
Among the women, the title of best player was awarded to Rachel Daly, an English international who plays for Aston Villa.
