From 10 p.m. on Tuesday, a new movement began at the initiative of train drivers affiliated with a single union. After Tuesday’s strike day, the disturbances continue.
Half of the IC trains (which connect the major Belgian cities), S (which revolve around five major cities) and L (omnibus) out of two were running on Wednesday morning, confirmed the SNCB. The P trains, which usually reinforce the network at peak times, hardly run.
A 48-hour strike, which began Tuesday evening at 10:00 p.m. by train drivers from the Autonomous Union of Train Drivers (SACT), took over from an action launched Monday evening as a union common front to denounce the lack of investment in the within the railway company SNCB and the infrastructure manager Infrabel. The alternative service introduced on Tuesday provided for one train in four.
Thursday’s minimum service announces the same terms as this Wednesday, namely overall half of the trains on the rails. However, specifies the SNCB, the daily scenarios remain subject to adaptations during the day, depending on the number of employees participating in the strike. The company therefore advises rail users to consult the journey planner for further information.
