The pilots of the CAIRE company, comprising Air Antilles and Air Guyane, have filed a strike notice for the period from December 17 to 22, 2022. They are asking for “a real revaluation taking into account inflation at the end of 2022” . Weekend flights are likely to be severely disrupted.
The company Air Guyane announces, this Thursday, December 15, that due to a notice of strike of the pilots of the Interregional Express Airline, she sees herself”forced to warn its users of major flight disruptions between December 17 and 23“. This concerns the entire group, namely the West Indies and Guyana.
It’s been three weeks since the company’s pilots filed their strike notice, giving executives time to respond to the demands. That is to say, on the one hand, taking inflation into account: “we haven’t been upgraded for many years“, explains Olivier Misère, pilot at Air Guyane. But also and above all “a company return that our employer unilaterally denounced at the end of August 2020“, continues the member of the SNPL.
We have been in a deadlock situation for two years where we have no company agreement for the pilots. It is this agreement that governs the calculation of wages.
Olivier Misère, pilot at Air Guyane and member of the National Union of Airline Pilots (SNPL)
The pilots decided to take action following fruitless discussions and unsatisfactory proposals. “Meager promises have been made but fall short following 20 years of no real ‘social dialogue’ and valuing the work of all employees. We were patient, accommodating“, say the unions.
Note that three trade union organizations take part in the movement : the SNPL, the Air UNSA (National Union of Autonomous Trade Unions) and the SNPNC-FO (National Union of Commercial Flight Crew). “Long experience of this company’s managerial methods has taught us that promises have little value at CAIRE!“they conclude in their press release.
Finally, regarding the disruptions to come: “What I know is that this weekend the movement should be followed“, Olivier Misère tells us. “Of all the pilots who are in Cayenne, I think that very few will not suffer. Saturday and Sunday rotations are likely to be severely disrupted“, warned the pilot. The situation at the beginning of the week will depend on the results of the discussions, which should be held in the following days.
