The country will be on strike on Wednesday, April 17, due to the 24-hour nationwide strike declared by the GSEE, demanding wage increases and the reinstatement of Collective Labor Agreements, as well as effective measures to deal with punctuality.

The public sector workers also participate in the strike, according to the decisions taken by the primary unions and the Federations. At the same time, among the unions that decided to participate in the strike is EINAP, which represents the doctors in the public hospitals of Athens and Piraeus.

Journalists’ strike on Tuesday 16/04 – ESIEA’s announcement

Journalists and media workers will participate in the 24-hour strike of the GSEE tomorrow. The reason the media are on strike on Tuesday 16/4 and not on Wednesday 17/4 is to cover the demonstrations on the day of the strike.

“By a joint decision of POESY, POSPERT, POEPTYM and ETPTA, a strike is announced for all journalists, technicians and administrators in all Mass Media (print, radio and television, online) in the public and private sector, ERT, GGE, APE-MBE .

The Federations note for the umpteenth time, the refusal on the part of the employers to proceed with the drawing up of Collective Labor Agreements in the private sector, which has led the workers to be paid meager wages, which are not sufficient to cover their basic family and personal needs, the increasing precision, which wipes out family incomes.

At the same time, not only media workers, but the whole of Greek society, we are experiencing a series of consecutive explosive increases, which create a suffocating situation for families who see their incomes and resources practically annihilated.

We protest the continued and ever-increasing pressure on journalism and journalists, and ultimately on reliable and free information, which is a cornerstone of democratic functioning.

The workers demand:

SSE in all media in both the public and private sectors. Journalists and media workers must finally stop being hostages of anarchic working conditions and very low wages. It is pointed out that in the recent EU directive on “adequate minimum wages”, member states are invited to strengthen Collective Labor Agreements, so that 80% of employees are covered by them. Information is a good and a democratic guarantee and its servants claim their professional and working dignity.
Measures to tackle the punctuality that flattens wages and drives workers into poverty.
Substantial and effective measures to deal with unemployment.
National and European support measures to protect incomes and jobs in the private sector.
Update with reliability and pluralism.
Safety in public transport and workplaces.
The defense of labor rights and the restoration of collective labor law is a defense of the principles of Democracy, Equality, Justice, with the ultimate goal of Freedom of Press, reliable and free information, with rules of ethics, reliability and pluralism.

The Federations call on their members to participate en masse in the strike, the demands of which concern all media workers, in the private and public sectors.

The Boards of Directors of POESY, POSPERT, POEPTYM, ETIPTA”.

Without Metro and Electric

On Wednesday, April 17, Attiki will be without Metro and Electricity, as the workers decided to participate in the 24-hour strike of the GSEE.

The workers are demanding immediate hiring and employment contracts and are participating in the strike once morest “the wave of precision and filthy lucre that daily affect the dignified living of millions of low-wage and low-pensioners” as stated in a statement of the Athens Metro Operation Employees’ Union (SELMA), which calls its members in Klathmonos square at 11 in the morning.

In its announcement, SELMA notes:

“Not only is the month not coming out, but the government is proving emphatically that it is doing everything to ensure that ‘prospect’ is erased from the vocabulary of households.”

We are participating in the 24-hour strike with the basic demands of the whole society:

• Wage increases and protection of the purchasing power of low and middle income households.

• We point out that the current inflationary boom is not only due to meager wages, but to the inflation of greed and profiteering.

• Immediate restoration of free wage negotiations.

• Immediate reinstatement of 13th & 14th salary.

• Cracking down on speculation in all businesses in the main sectors of production and trading of basic food goods and extraordinary taxation on the profits of super market chains and energy companies and banks.

• Indexation of all social allowances and benefits, as well as widening of rent subsidy beneficiaries, based on income and social criteria, to address the high cost of housing, especially for young couples and students, alongside the creation of a public stock of social housing.

Work stops on the buses – What times will they run?

With work stoppages, they decided to participate in the 24-hour strike declared by the GSEE and the OSA workers.

In particular, city buses in Athens are expected to run from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The work stoppage will last from the start of the shift until 9:00 and from 21:00 until the end of the shift.

It is noted that the restoration of traffic is expected following 10:00, while the last routes will depart from 20:00 or earlier.

Buses are normally expected to run on the OASA lines which have been taken over by KTEL.

What regarding taxis?

A work stoppage, from 5 in the morning to 3 in the followingnoon on Wednesday, April 17, and participation in the GSEE mobilization was also announced by the SATA Taxi Drivers Union.

The ships are “tied up” in the ports
The ships will remain tied up in the ports of the whole country, because the Panhellenic Maritime Federation decided to participate in the 24-hour strike, as a result of which there will be no coastal ferry services on that particular day.

As pointed out in a related announcement: “The PNO strike will begin at 00.01 on Wednesday, April 17 and will end at midnight of the same day, with a request to deal with punctuality and to ensure the appropriate conditions for a decent level”.

OLME will also hold three-hour work stoppages.
