In an Instagram post, the organizers of the event announced strict measures regarding minors: “We would like to remind you that minors are prohibited throughout the event from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.,” can we read there. However, this does not apply to people in possession of a student card.

The organizers emphasize that checks will be carried out throughout the city: “Minors who do not respect this curfew will be fined.”

The 44th edition of the 24h bike race of Louvain-la-Neuve will take place on October 24 and 25. This important event of student folklore, which combines celebration and cycle race, is expected to attract between 40,000 and 50,000 people to the university town. Particular emphasis will be placed on bringing the race back to the forefront, on safety, and on modernizing the event, in particular by improving its sustainability.

The number of teams is increasing in the different categories of bikes (folk, racing, humanitarian, corporate, etc.) with a total of 104 bikes, compared to 86 last year. In terms of sustainability, the organizers have planned waste sorting in the concert areas, an “ecoteam” to continuously empty trash cans, and vegetarian alternatives for meals.

Traditionally, the 24h bike race takes place on Wednesday and Thursday, but with a European summit scheduled for October 26 in Brussels, the event was brought forward by one day to optimize the security system. Thus, 319 police officers will be deployed in Louvain-la-Neuve during these 24 hours, while 114 security agents will watch over the concert areas, secured by Herras barriers. In town, 72 stewards will guide the revelers.

An advanced first aid station and a medical-surgical station are planned, and it was decided to add a first aid station near the Leclercq car park, as well as a team of responders on foot. The medical system will include around a hundred actors (doctors, nurses, Red Cross, etc.). A rest area for “tired” students has also been added.

Special trains are planned at night to connect Namur and Brussels to Louvain-la-Neuve. A police order prohibits minors from being on the site from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m.
