Strict Crackdown on Drug Trafficking in Saudi Arabia: Recent Arrests and Seizures

Riyadh: The raid and legal action once morest drug trafficking in the country continues to be strict. During two days, many people from different parts of the country were caught with drugs. Last day, 10 people, including an Indian, were arrested with 693 kilograms of hashish in the Asir province of southern Saudi Arabia.

The other suspects arrested are five Ethiopian nationals and four Saudi nationals who infiltrated through the border. Major Marwan Al-Hazmi, spokesperson of the General Directorate of Drug Control, said that they were arrested while trying to smuggle hashish.

The General Directorate of Narcotics Control arrested a Syrian national in Riyadh province with 100,000 amphetamine tablets. The authorities clarified that the accused was caught while trying to deliver these drug pills to the needy. An Ethiopian man has also been arrested in connection with the transaction of hashish and amphetamine pills from Albaha. Narcotics Control Albaha branch officials informed that the suspect infiltrated through the country border.

135 kg packets of khat, an intoxicating plant, were caught in Jizan while trying to smuggle them into the country. The land patrol team of the Border Security Force in Al Arda area caught the packages of drugs and those who tried to smuggle them. 10,506 amphetamine pills and hashish were found hidden in a house under construction in southwestern Saudi Arabia’s Khunfuda. Khunfuda Governorate Police first found these drugs. Then the person concerned was caught on his mobile phone. The suspect is a Saudi national. A drug dealer was arrested in Al Ras, Qasem province. He used to deliver hashish and intoxicating pills under the guise of supplying medicine. He was caught by following him on his mobile phone.

All the accused arrested in these different incidents have been handed over to the respective branches of the Public Prosecution for further action. The General Directorate of Drug Control has asked people to contact 911 in Makkah, Riyadh and Eastern Province and 999 in other places if they notice any transactions related to drugs and intoxicating substances.
