Stretches for hands and wrists in five minutes

Spending a few minutes daily stretching your hands and wrists is beneficial in preventing pain, injury, and muscle disease. In this episode of Efficientlythe coach of yoga and mindfulness Ángela Losada shares four exercises that focus on the well-being of the hands, wrists, and shoulders.

Yoga: more than just stretching

Yoga is an ancient technique that combines meditation with body flow. Its objective is to increase control of the body, mind and breathing. The origins of this practice go back to India and Hindu philosophical doctrine. Today you can practice different types of yoga and the most common is the hatha yoga.

Practicing yoga has been linked to benefits for both mental health and physical well-being. As for general physical health, according to an article in Harvard Health Publishing, Yoga can help maintain a proper body weight, reduce the risk of heart disease, and develop greater flexibility and mobility in all the joints of the body.

The latter includes the hands and wrists, parts of the body that can be overlooked when doing physical activity, but that are the central axis of today’s lifestyle. In fact, the Pan American Journal of Public Health showed that yoga helps prevent some symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome, one of the most common occupational diseases derived from the repetitive movements that are made when typing and using electronic devices.

Additionally, yoga has been linked to decreased pain and increased grip strength in patients with diseases such as arthritis or who have suffered strokes with motor consequences. This, according to a study published in the journal Painis due not only to the physical benefits of yoga but also to its more humane approach to the patient.
