DEPUTY Chairman of the Indonesian Regional Leadership Council (DPD) Sultan Baktiar Najamudin emphasized that his institution must strengthen regional community representation, especially in the 2024-2029 period. However, this certainly does not reduce the portion of the DPR which also absorbs the aspirations of the people.

“The strength of the DPD does not mean taking or compensating, or whatever it is called, reducing the DPR’s share, no,” said Sultan at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday (30/9).

The Sultan, who was also elected for the next period of DPD membership, ensured that the institution’s position and presence were felt. Then it was felt by the local community.

“Our mission is to make the DPD a strong, representative, political institution that can truly accommodate the aspirations of the people of the region,” said Sultan.

He added that the DPD must collaborate and synergize with the government, DPR and stakeholders. The candidate for chairman of the DPD for the 2024-2029 period admitted that the DPD cannot stand alone.

“So we cannot, and it is impossible to make the DPD institution effective and strong if we stand alone,” said Sultan. (J-2)
